In Which Way Super Cell Fender is Improved over the Ordinary Cell Fender

1. E/R•H: 15 percent more:

Effectiveness of the fenders is designated by E/R•H (Energy Absorption/Reaction Force x Fender Height). The value of E/R•H of Super Cell Fenders is 0.439 which is 15% higher than the 0.383 for the ordinary Cell Fenders. The combination of Super Cell Fender and new grade of rubber helps to make designing more economical. This Super Cell Fender with the new grade of rubber can be a size smaller but perform as well as a size larger.

2. Wider dispersion of stress:

Super Cell Fender is improved over the ordinary Cell Fender at the buckling point and the shape of the edge of the leg. Its wider dispersion of stress has been corroborated by the FEM (Finite Element Method).

The wider dispersion of stress makes it possible to increase the design deflection from 47.5% to 52.5%, resulting in superior performance of the Super Cell Fender, as well as being durable.

3. Well performing at angular berthing:

For selecting a fendering system suitable for berthing of large vessels, angular performance is one of the most important factors to be considered.

4. Sizes of the Super Cell Fenders:

The sizes of Super Cell Fenders are selected especially by taking the most effective range for receiving large vessels from 50,000 DWT to 500,000 DWT into consideration.

In this area, a fender which has a high absorption of energy with specially a low reaction force is required. The following sizes of our Super Cell Fenders meet this requirement:

JSC 1000H, JSC 1150H, JSC 1250H, JSC 1450H, JSC 1600H, JSC 1700H, JSC 2000H, JSC 2250H, JSC 2500H

As Super Cell Fenders have exactly the same bolt-hole dimensions as ordinary Cell Fenders have, they can be installed on wharves by suing the same sizes and quantities of anchor bolts.

5. Minimum clearance from the edge of the concrete structure

minmum clearanceWhen anchor bolts embedded in a concrete structure are used for holding Cell Fenders on thatminmum spacing structure, it is necessary for the distance between the anchor position of the Cell Fender and the edge of the concrete structure to be the length of the minimum size of anchor bolt used. When the Cell Fender is compressed, shear force or pullout force is generated and there is danger of the concrete structure becoming damaged.

In case sufficient length cannot be obtained, anchor bolts should be welded securely to ferroconcrete reinforcement of the concrete so that it can withstand shear force or pullout force.

6. Minimum spacing for installation

When the Cell Series Fender is compressed, the outer diameter expands. Therefore, the fenders should be installed in such a way that they will not collide with each other.

Table of angular performance

In case of a dolphin and a super-structured berth for large vessels, the effect of angular compression on the fender is generally considered in designing. But in case of a continuous wharf where many fenders are installed with certain spacing, this effect usually is not considered.

According to the results obtained in field surveys, the berthing angle will be less than 3 degrees in most cases and 6 degrees at the maximum. We suggest that you will select the fendering system taking the correction factor for angular loading into consideration.

The following table of angular performance defines performances of Cell Fender Series under each berthing angle.

arrangement

The table shows angular performance of Cell Fender Series only for 1 x 1 system or vertical array system such as 1 x 2 system.

For vertical array system, multiply the performance in the following table in proportion to the quantity of fender. For horizontal array system such as 2 x 1 system or 3 x 1 system, angular performance of the system is depending on the distance between each fenders and frame size. If you need such a correction factor or angular performance in designing, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Remarks: Direction of compression of fenders is as follows:

direction of compression

It is also necessary to consider the effect of angular loading on the combined systems, two fenders or three fenders, as well as single fender system.
